  • Compile a budget for the year
  • Record all results of runs, League runs, Time Trials etc so that one can see at a glance who has improved, not attending races etc.
  • Deal with complaints, concerns, etc from runners.
  • Attend Captains meetings once a month
  • Write a report once a month and this will be discussed at the Club Captains meetings.
  • On a monthly basis, write a motivation with a nomination for the Runner of the Month (based on performance)
  • Write a motivation with a nomination for the Spartan of the Month (based on athletes who go the extra mile for the club)
  • Attend Committee meetings once a month.
  • Ensure that the Time Trial results are recorded and posted on the notice board in the clubhouse as soon as possible after the Time Trial. The same goes with League races.
  • Be at the clubhouse to unlock / lock up each time there is a run from the clubhouse.
  • Ensure that the First Aid box is well-stocked.
  • Every Monday ensure that the routes for the current week are e-mailed / WhatsApped via broadcast message to runners.
  • Bi-annual 12 week Beginner Programme
  • Take charge of the Beginner Programme as this is the overall responsibility of the Running Captain and it can be delegated to volunteers who offer to run with this programme. Attend their graduation run to ensure that they are prepared, wear correct kit, age tags etc. After graduation encourage beginners to join Spartan Harriers and advise these potential new members on what is on offer at the club. (Work closely with Ladies Captain in this regard)
  • Ensure that Beginner runners are given a starter information pack with everything that they will need to know about the club, the League runs, how points are earned etc.
  • Present Runner of the Month award at Time Trial

  • Checking on members, ie. making contact with members that have not been to the club for a while and making contact with members who have left to see if we can encourage them to rejoin.
  • Arrange for members get well notes should they be ill, condolences should they be bereaved etc.
  • Arrange for the supply and collection of the Spartan of the Month trophies
  • Arrange prizes at Time Trial
  • Beginners: Assist Running Captain with smooth running of the Beginners programmes and co-ordinate helpers, for walkers & runners.
  • Assist the Club Administrator with new memberships after each Beginners programme, as well as lapsed memberships
  • Arrange eats and drinks for League races
  • Make sure that all members are happy and being looked after.

  • Attend WPA Cross Country Committee meetings and report back at Committee meetings
  • Communicate to members pre-Cross Country season, providing information and fixtures
  • Communicate to members weekly during Cross Country season, providing information regarding up-coming League races and results after each event
  • Compile results into excel spreadsheet once received from WP and distribute these via email,notice board and Cross Country results file kept at club house
  • Communicate with WP regarding any queries, results based or otherwise
  • Respond to any queries from members
  • Ensure the gazebo is up at all Cross Country events
  • Secure funding for incentive with committee
  • Source quote for incentive and present to committee
  • Ensure incentive order is placed for XC ready for Annual Awards

  • Compile a budget for the year – this should be done at the beginning of the year because the financial year runs from January to December.
  • Record all results of walks, League walks, Time Trials Grand Prix’s etc so that one can see at a glance who has improved, not attending races etc.
  • Ensure that a two monthly schedule is drawn up in detail giving the Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday training walks as well as any races which are taking place, including Cross Country races. This schedule will also contain the names of walkers who have been assigned duties such as sweeper duty, water duty, time keeping etc.
  • Deal with complaints, concerns, etc from walkers.
  • Attend Captains meetings once a month
  • Write a report once a month and this will be discussed at the Club Captains meetings. On a monthly basis, write a motivation with a nomination for the Walker of the Month (based on performance)
  • Write a motivation with a nomination for the Spartan of the Month (based on athletes who go the extra mile for the club)
  • Attend Committee meetings once a month.
  • Organise1 in-house trophy walk – the Guesstimate Trophy Walk
  • Ensure that the Time Trial results are recorded and posted on the notice board in the clubhouse as soon as possible after the Time Trial. The same goes with League race, Grand Prix, WP and SA Masters results.
  • Be at the clubhouse to unlock / lock up each time there is a walk from the clubhouse.
  • Ensure that the First Aid box is well stocked.
  • Every Monday ensure that the routes for the current week are e-mailed/WhatsApped via broadcast message to walkers including the start times, distance walked and a description of the route.
  • Bi-aAnnual 12 week Beginner Programme
  • Take charge of the Beginner Programme as this is the overall responsibility of the Walking Captain and it can be delegated to volunteers who offer to run with this programme. Attend their Graduation walk to ensure that they are prepared, wear correct kit, (knees have to visible) age tags etc and guide them through the rules with regard to bent legs, lifting etc. After Graduation encourage Beginners to join Spartan Harriers and advise these potential new members on what is on offer at the club. (work closely with Ladies Captain in this regard)
  • Arrange for Walking Clinics on an adhoc basis as the need requires, be it for runners who want to learn to race walk or for newer walkers who want to learn the more technical side of walking.
  • Ensure that Beginner walkers are given a starter information pack with everything that they will need to know about the club, the League walks, how points are earned etc.
  • Arrange the end of year function and prize giving for the walkers and ensure that the trophies for the various trophy walks are purchased and engraved.
  • Hewat Relay: Assist with the organisation of relay teams in conjunction with the Club Captain.
  • Spartan Harriers Races: Walking Captain has to take over the duties of Race Director for the SHFC
  • Walking Captain has to take responsibility for organising the SHFC Marshalls race which involves a long list of tasks for each of the events in order to have a successful race.
